One of Australia's recycling heavyweights has collapsed with debts of $100 million, plunging the struggling industry even further into crisis.

Cleanaway Waste Management is owed more than $60 million as a secured creditor, while the total amount outstanding to creditors and employees is estimated to be $100 million.KordaMentha, which has been appointed as receiver and manager of SKM, says it wants to get the business going again.

Mayor Rennie was scathing of the Andrews government’s handling of the wider issue accusing them of failing to prepare for crisis they should've seen coming. “This one's squarely on the shoulders of State Government. They could've done something about it.”
