The Education Minister said the move by the Sarawak government to allocate funds to help young Sarawakians pay back their National Higher Education Fund Corporation loan is good, but more sustainable initiatives need to be provided.
"PTPTN has provided several tax incentives approved by the Finance Ministry for employers who help pay off their worker's PTPTN loans. "It is the same for any state governments as well. It's just that to me, apart from incentives from state governments, it is good to also provide high-paying job opportunities, as it is more sustainable and it will uplift the rakyat's economy status."We encourage all state governments to provide opportunities with good pay," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday .
On Monday, Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had announced a RM30mil sum to be appropriated to help young Sarawakians repay their PTPN loans next year. Abang Johari said when tabling the 2020 state Budge that the state government empathised with what Sarawakian students had been undergoing, adding that some graduates were having difficulties making their repayment to their loans, while some were unable to secure the loan for various reasons.
