Sky News host Alan Jones has criticised the latest Morrison government drought stimulus package, saying the farmers won’t “have the money” to pay back their loans. Richo&Jones

Sky News host Alan Jones has criticised the latest Morrison government drought stimulus package, saying the farmers won’t “have the money” to pay back their loans. The Morrison Government recently unveiled a multi-billion dollar drought aid package, with the announcement of $1 billion in cheap loans for farmers and small business. “No one in Canberra seems to know that a loan is paid back monthly,” Mr Jones said.

Mr Jones said it's a ludicrous proposition for the government to suggest “in two years, the farmer is meant to have money that he doesn't have now”. “So at the end of two years, the government must think it is going to rain $100 bills," he said. Mr Jones again reiterated his desire for the government to introduce a farmer's HECS-style arrangement. “Get them the water and the fodder and the freight now, that is today, and like the students, pay later,” he said.

You have got plenty of money Alan you lend them some instead of criticism

Alan Jones is correct If the gov doesn't listen we will lose our farmers and we won't get them back

macsween_prue It’s a bloody disgrace.

matthewhayden Can I get a Govt loan to buy back the property the Govt let the Commbank steal when it lied in court to claim my property value had reversed from 2007 to 2015? This loss of equity costs taxpayer- govt pays my rent now-whereas before I paid my mortgage- Why Work now i know this?

macsween_prue Alan Jones is desparate to keep his job. We need to deal with the issue rationally as a lot of farmers plan for droughts and don't need assistance. Irrigation water from Murray is a much bigger issue. Farmers need access to irrigation water.

At least someone from the right is being honest about the Coalition government’s sneaky underhanded ploy to force more debt onto farmers pushing them closer to the “JUST SELL YOUR FARMS” advice..presumably sell to the LNP’s waiting mining foreign corporations and Chinese mates

It’s Scott from marketing, it’s all he has, window dressing whilst he awaits the rapture, not realising that as a rich man he has a camel’s chance of entering heaven.

Partially correct. In the end they’ll be bought by Asian money and turned into mega corporate operations with economies of scale ove hundreds of thousand acres. The family farm grew from the British Invasion - not sustainable any longer.
