McClatchy Co., the third-largest newspaper publisher in the U.S. by circulation, said it has begun talks with its creditors and federal authorities about a possible government takeover of its pension fund as it tries to relieve considerable liquidity pressure due to its pension responsibilities and debt load.

the employees who earned their pensions arent dying but the company is.

Why should the rest of us fund their pension fund? We have enough trouble funding our own. Let them cut back on something. It's their responsibility. The American taxpayer has had enough.

Decline in subscriptions is based on decline in sales of bird cages which use newspaper to catch birdshit...

The pension system created in some instances a century ago is antiquated and unsustainable for both the private and public sectors... Time to change or go under!
