Small business owner Phil Abram says JobKeeper and JobSeeker subsidies would continue to act as a deterrent, against seeking employment, despite the flagged reduction to the payments announced by the Morrison government on Tuesday.

“It’s a real disincentive for people to apply for work at the moment,” he said. JobSeeker payments will be slashed to $815 a fortnight from September as the Coalition moves to keep COVID-19 support payments until at least the end of the year. Prime Minister Scott Morrison also announced JobKeeper support would be reduced to $1200 per fortnight towards the end of September with a lower payment of $750 for those working less than 20 hours per week.

Mr Abram said given the massive downturn and high unemployment experienced by the hospitality industry, he was amazed by the lack of interest in his advertisement for a new casual worker. “It’s the first time that I’ve experienced such little response to the ad that we’ve placed,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny. Mr Abram said a number of other small businesses in the hospitality industry were experiencing similar problems.

Shame we can't all be on the consultant gravy train

JobKeeper another Public Service triumph, just imagine the secondments to administer that. No redundancies while Slomo is around. They love him, so agreeable.

Weren't they the industries that have been accused of rampant wage theft?

Are you paying too little or too few hrs'? 'No, no...the incentive and motivation just isn't there' Isn't average Joe's only real incentive to work, the money? I don't mind some jobs but love very few, I work for, money

I miss this coffee .... ☕️
