Somewhere in early high school I got my first debit card and my mom started auto depositing my allowance. Money would magically appear only to disappear again. I would bet that if you were to pop quiz any of my peers to find out which bank machines allowed withdrawals in $5 increments, they would all say “Royal Bank” without hesitation.Article content

By the time I had my first real big girl job, electronic payroll was a thing and money would just appear again. My mom made me set up an auto-drip so that on payday money would swoosh right into the RRSP account she insisted I start. And now here we are. Deluged by articles exploring young Canadian’s addiction to cheap debt and questionable priorities, maligning Millennials for spending on avocado toast and $7 lattes instead of their retirement.
