Credit Suisse’s local bankers, analysts and traders are in the dark as their Swiss overlords talk to regulators and arch rival UBS about a mooted tie-up.

There’s little point asking anyone in Sydney and Melbourne - and we doubt anyone in Zurich has thought too much about it.

Fortunately - or unfortunately - Credit Suisse’s local top brass, headed by country head for the past 3½ years Richard Gibb, were already booked to head to Hong Kong this week for the bank’s annual Asia Investment Conference. The conference should give the bankers a chance to eyeball their offshore bosses, and try to fill the information vacuum back home. They’ll have talking points about the Australian team’s performance ready to go, and why it’s historically been a happy hunting ground for the global bank.

‘Credit is the lifeline of the financial system’: Professor WuUniversity of Sydney's Head of Business and Finance Professor Eliza Wu says “credit is the lifeline” of the financial system and providing reliable credit throughout the economy fuels innovation and business performance. “Credit is the lifeline of the financial system so, of course, we want banks to be safe and sound and to be able to do their special job of providing credit throughout the economy,” Ms Wu told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood. “That can fuel innovation, business activity and strong economic performance.” It was Jesus who expelled the Jewish money lenders from the temples..... One person's investment is another person's debt. Better to self-credit through your own savings. Having skin in the game will also make you better at what you do.
