Universal Credit claimants are being warned over 16 changes they must tell the Department for Work and pensions (DWP0 or risk facing court action or a fine.
There are now 6.1 million people claiming Universal Credit in the UK, according to the latest DWP figures released this month, and more than the peak of six million in March 2021. The means-tested benefit is given to help people on a low income, out of work or who cannot work due to ill health or caring responsibilities.However, some are unaware that certain changes to their circumstances can impact their entitlement to their benefit claim.
DWP guidance says: "You could be taken to court or have to pay a penalty if you give wrong information or do not report a change in your circumstances." What changes in circumstances do I need to report to the DWP? The following 16 changes in circumstances must be reported to the DWP:
