A total of 600 new staff have been recruited to fight fraud and errors in the system.

A new task force has been assembled by the Department for Work and Pensions to help those who are missing out on benefits because of Universal Credit claimants.

This includes a huge £5billion of fraud in Universal Credit, plus another £520 million in Housing Benefit claims, £180 million in Employment and Support Allowance , £120 million in Pension Credit and £40 million in Personal Independence Payment . It was recently announced by the DWP there would be a target to save £1.3 billion in the next year by cracking down on those exploiting the system.

In addition, the newly developed Targeted Case Reviews team - which the latest staff recruits will be part of - will look at millions of Universal Credit claims over the next five years, reports NorthWalesLive.
