Universal Credit and other benefits changing payment dates next month

Britons are urged to check if their benefit payments could be landing in their accounts on a different date next month. This is due to the summer bank holiday on August 26, turning the final week of the months into a long weekend for most including banks and financial institutions.

As a result, thousands of people may be getting their benefit payments a few days earlier than usual as the money is sent on the first available working day before the long weekend. For August, this will be the 23rd. Anyone expecting benefit payments on August 24, August 25 or August 26 will likely receive their benefits on the 23rd instead.

The Department for Work and Pensions and HMRC have confirmed that the following benefits will be affected: This doesn’t affect how much a person will receive from their benefit, unless an unconnected change of circumstances has affected their entitlement. Those who do receive their payment early are urged to be more vigilant around their budgeting as this will mean a slightly longer gap between their August and September payments and they will need to stretch their cash across the extra two or three days.

Following August, the next bank holiday disrupting benefit payments will be December 25 and December 26, with payments due on those days reportedly set to be received on Tuesday, December 24 instead.
