Could the government be moving to cancel college student loan debt? It's an issue that's gaining more attention as the Biden administration moves closer to a possible decision.

The topic sparked political divisions on Capitol Hill on Thursday during a hearing.

The political battle lines are sharp. Democrats argue canceling student debt would allow college-educated students to start their careers out from under the weight of loan payments many are struggling to make."The overwhelming number of borrowers do work hard," says Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio. "They do play by the rules. Go to college? Check. Get a job? Check. Work hard every day? But instead of achieving the American dream, borrowers are trapped in debt and economic instability.

"It’s almost never acceptable for the taxpayers to be forced to be responsible for someone else’s voluntarily privately incurred debt," says Sen. Patrick Toomey of Pennsylvania. "Cancelation of student debt obscures the root cause of the problem here, and the root cause of the problem is the outrageously high cost of higher education.

We do not need any more debt…

There wouldn’t be student loan debt if the government never got involved to begin with. Once they started with grants colleges jacked up tuition knowing they’d get it from the government. There was a time a person could work and pay on their own.

Oh hell no!! They made the debt so let them actually pay for what they got!! Stupid Federal spending has already doubled gas, killing the Stock Market and destroying America!

how about cancel Cancer debt?

Do any of these college educated twits understand that when that debt is forgiven, the balance becomes taxable income and they will still owe money to the government.

He had better not. These people took out the loans knowing they would have to pay them back just like everybody else has to pay back every other kind of loan. They don't get a free ride when the rest of us work our butt off of what we have. There are consequences for decisions.

Cancel all student loans! The economic benefit alone is worth it.

Unfortunately, Biden can't cancel legal contracts. Congress will have to authorize the money to pay off student debts. Taxpayers won't stand for it. November will be a disaster for Democrats.

Yea they just want more votes.

Biden…..doing anything he can to distract from his pitiful performance, while pandering for votes, at any costs.

Could have a some some

Told wouldn't did slam my back entrance 25 or so kid no words came thru I did teacher don't know how old I looked but student. Looked got up slammed my door right there. Now graduate illiterate able to teach a dyslexic. Break fit homes busy noisy body's and go as far as show up

WTF! Are they crazy, this is not a socialist society.

Must be closer to the midterms...need votes...more handouts coming.

If they don't cancel student loans, retrospectively put them at 0%. I bet most loans would be paid off.

Give them this now before you can't afford it due to continued Ukraine funding.

Realize its Illegal, only Congress can cancel it as only Congress can spend money. and your talking serious money here that Biden is talking. its known as Theft if he tries.

How about pay loan back and quit crying!

If so, where do I submit for a reimbursement for the loans that I paid off?

Hmmm. I wonder who is having to pay for all that.
